Shule Moja (shule1.com) is a directory of educational institutions in Tanzania and East Africa, founded in Arusha. It helps students, parents and educators search, compare and contact schools in one place.
Zemotify designed and built the platform: search by institution type and location, institution listings with reviews, a self-service way for schools to list themselves, and a practice-exam area for students.
Introduction
Choosing a school in Tanzania often means asking around, visiting in person and piecing together scattered information. Parents and students rarely have one place to see what is nearby, what it offers and what other families think.
Shule Moja set out to fix that with a single directory covering everything from day care to university. The founder’s goal, as stated on the site, is to cut the hassle of that search by at least 50–70%.
The platform had to work for three groups at once: families searching, schools wanting to be found, and students preparing for exams.
The challenges
A directory is only useful if people can find, trust and act on what they see:
-
One search for every kind of institution
Day care centres, primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities all had to sit in one directory without the results becoming a jumble.
-
Location matters most
Families choose schools close to home, so search had to work by city and region, with directions one tap away.
-
Trust before a phone call
Parents want to hear from other families before they reach out. Listings needed ratings and reviews that are easy to read.
-
Schools adding themselves
A directory only grows if institutions can list themselves and keep their details current, without the team entering everything by hand.
-
More than a phone book
Students needed a reason to come back: practice exams and a dashboard to follow their progress.
The approach
We built Shule Moja on a proven directory foundation and shaped it around how families actually search:
Search by type and place
The hero search combines institution type, from day care to university, with location, so a parent can go straight to secondary schools in Arusha.
Regional hubs
The home page groups institutions by region: Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Dar-es-Salaam, Dodoma, Kigoma and Mwanza, so visitors can browse what is near them.
Listings built to act on
Each listing carries ratings, reviews, a call button and directions, turning research into a visit or a phone call.
Self-service listing
An Add Listing flow and sign-in let institutions publish and manage their own profiles, under a clear Explore, Connect, Grow invitation.
